Many occur in the numerous chapels that line the strip. However, you can also have a really elegant wedding in Las Vegas as well. The fact is, Las Vegas has gotten a bad rap for many years when it comes to the wedding industry here. If you tell someone you are getting married in Vegas, they immediately imagine an over weight Elvis impersonator, marrying you in some small, dank chapel. Of course you can still get that, but you can also get some high end, elegant and expensive wedding services in Las Vegas.

Don't let the worlds view of Las Vegas fool you as some of the most richest people in the world have been married in Las Vegas. Jon Bon Jovi married his bride here in Las Vegas. And let's not forget Angelina Jolie and Billy Bob Thorton, who also tied the knot in Las Vegas. Jane Fonda and Ted Turner married here and they're marriage lasted for over 10 years! Elvis and Priscilla (Anne Beaulieu) were married in Las Vegas on May 1, 1967 in a private ceremony!

Las Vegas Marriage Statistics

The state of Nevada has the highest marriage rates in the United States, as much as 10 times the average rate in other states, according to National Center for Health Statistics. Clark County is the most populated county in Nevada, accounting for over three-quarters of its population, with Las Vegas being the most populous city in that county. A predominate number of Nevada weddings occur in Las Vegas. Clark County's marriage rate seems to have peaked in 2004 at 128,250, and since then has been steadily decreasing.

Requirements

Both U.S. and non-U.S. citizens can be married in Clark County. However, it is recommended that international couples check with their native country to see if it requires any additional documents to validate the marriage.

Marriage applicants must be a male and a female, who are both at least 18 years old, with no living spouse and not closer in relation than second or half cousins. Applicants will need to provide original identification verifying name and age, such as a photo ID and a birth certificate. Persons appearing over the age of 25 will only be required to provide a photo ID. U.S. applicants are required to give their social security number.

Divorced applicants must provide the month, day, year, city and state of the divorce. The divorce must be finalized and filed. However, a copy of the divorce decree is not required.

Minor Applicants

Minor applicants (aged 16 or 17) for a marriage license must have the consent of a parent or legal guardian. The parent or guardian must also present identification, and the parent's or guardian's name must match the name on the applicant's birth certificate or on the guardianship papers. Consent can be given by parental presence or by notarized statement. Applicants who are less than 16 years old can only marry by court order from a Nevada State Court. The action must be filed by a parent or legal guardian.

Cost

There is fee to obtain a marriage license, which is payable by cash, cashier's check, money order, or major credit card. Personal checks will not be accepted. There is an additional charge to process credit transactions. A debit card will not be accepted unless it is also a credit card.

Marriage Ceremonies

To validate the marriage license, a ceremony must be performed in the State of Nevada one year from the date of issuance. The ceremony may be performed by anyone authorized to perform ceremonies in Nevada, and may be performed in any chapel or church or the civil marriage commissioner's office.
